Jill Bolte Taylor was a 37-year-old brain scientist when she suffered a stroke in late 1996. As she narrates in "My Stroke of Insight" (Viking $27.50), she realized that her left brain was impaired: it took her 45 minutes to recall the phone number of a colleague (remembering 911 was impossible), and another half-hour to locate her doctor's number on a business card.

Her brain was being flooded with blood, the hemorrhage due to a rare AVM (arteriovenous malformation).

But, without the ego control of her left brain, her right brain took over her consciousness with a sense of "flow," of being one with the universe and lost in wordless wonder. Fortunately, her colleague surmised her brain trauma over the phone -- language skills were also lost, even though she could form words in her head -- and got her to a Boston hospital. Thus began her eight-year journey of recovery.

Taylor writes from a unique perspective about how the medical system should assist stroke and brain injury victims.

Her background as a neuroanatomist not only gave her special empathy for such victims, it meant that she could diagnose her own crisis and ramp up her determination to rebuild all the skills and knowledge (from spelling to walking) that the stroke had stolen from her.

Just a few months after surgery to remove the clot, Taylor was able to address a meeting of the National Association for Mental Illness, for whom she had been a spokesperson.

Her mother was instrumental in her recovery; she worked with Taylor full-time as she had as an infant to rediscover colours, shapes, letters and how to use a spoon.

Through the years of regaining her abilities, Jill struggled to hold on to that sense of well-being, that Nirvana, which her right brain had found, unfettered by her logical, language- and memory-based left brain.

While exploring emotions as if for the first time, she could shed the baggage they had previously been encumbered with.

"Have you ever noticed how these negative internal thought patterns have the tendency to generate increased levels of inner hostility and/or raised levels of anxiety?"

Taylor's mission is twofold.

To improve the compassion of family and caregivers towards stroke, brain injury and mentally ill patients, and to urge all of us to cultivate right-brain awareness.

The latter is the grateful realization that our trillions of cells vibrate with universal energy. She suggests meditation and mindfulness techniques, such as noticing your breathing, to cultivate insights which she was able to achieve thanks to her stroke.

The taxonomy of left and right brain functions adds a dimension that philosophers from ancient times to the 20th century lacked. The location of the seat of consciousness has long been debated but never reduced to mere neurons and cells.

For atheistic scientists like Richard Dawkins who claim that religion has outlived its usefulness, neuroanatomies begs the question of where in the brain does consciousness of self and of God exist.

Scientific materialism leaves no room for notions of God-mind, but as David Berlinski points out in "The Devil's Delusion - Atheism and its Scientific Pretension" (Crown $27.95) such a paradigm is wrong-headed (pun intended).

Science and religion are not rivals but rather different responses to the human condition. The search for meaning and purpose in life goes beyond what the ever-expanding circle of scientific facts can tell us. We still need "a story."

Isn't it interesting that a hard-nosed brain scientist, thanks to the baby-step relearning of life skills following her stroke, can point us to a mystical awareness that all our (right) brains share. I heartily recommend her book.

We're all blessed with chance to expand our minds, hopefully without the blowup of an arteriovenous malformation.

Forgotten potential income source reveiled!

I forgot a source of income..
I have recently had an offer from someone (unsolicited) to purchase one of my websites.. It has content, about a hobby of mine, and I run Yahoo ads at the top of each page, and along a side bar on the right of each page, I placed a few books from amazon.com on a few pages, and then I have one affiliate program that I pitch, because it is a good product and pays high commissions.
The site makes about $6000 annually.
I am asking $17,000 or roughly 3 years net profits. I am hoping to get $12,000 (two years gross profit, and right now am waiting for a counter offer).

So getting a free site at angelfire, and writing about something you are interested in can work.. It just takes a little time and effort.. And if you follow all of my suggestions about getting a site, making a site and working that site, you may just get an offer like that someday too..
It ain;t rich, and it ain’t quick, but it is income, and it grows every year. Not bad considering I spend less than 20 hours a year maintaining that site now.. Huh?

(That site is about 6 years old now.. So this has not come overnight.. It was work, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise, but because it was something I was interested in, it was easy work to do on nights and weekends.. So go pick something you like, and start a site.. Who knows where it will lead?)

Hello Dear Readers.
I know it has been a while since I have posted anything new here, but I have not been doing too much new lately.
The system I have put together is working for me.
What is that system?

Well I have a website on angelfire (www.angelfire.com) that I write about a personal interest, and then I have my blogs.. Three total.. One very active, one not active right now, and this one.

I am running yahoo’s advertising across the top and on the bottom left side of all my pages, and it is making money.. About $300 a month.

I have a few scattered ads from cj.com in my blogs and pages, and they pull in a few more $$$ each month, and last I have my affiliate programs with amazon.com and custombuiltspas.com and both of those are adding to the tally each and every month.

Am I getting rich.. No not on just these things, but it all adds up to several thousand dollars a year, for no real work. None.. Zip .. Nada.. I am just doing what I would do if I did not have advertisers.. Here are the links.. Do not be put off by all the information you will see there, just take your time and see where you can put an ad or two on a blog or webpage.. It really is very easy if you just do it..

Making money with Tammy nyp download?

(no tammy NYP there, but look what you can find!)

First a note for first time readers.. this blog is about making money online.. if this is something that interests you read on. If you are looking for the infamous Tammy NYP download, you will want to go back now.
Otherwise, I suggest that you read the archives. The suggestions in this blog are based on my experience in making money online with free websites and blogs. Good luck to you either way!

Also note, I am not here ot make moral judgements, if exploiting the NYP Tammy video is against something you stand for, worry not, there are plenty of these little dittys that come along. I use Tammy NYP as just the latest example.

Recently a new phenomenon has arisen, Tammy NYP.
Tammy NYP is a 17 year old girl from Singapore, that had the unfortunate luck of having her cell phone stolen and a "friend" then emailed copies of a sexually explicit video that was found on the phone to classmates, instructors, etc. The video has subsequently been uploaded to video sharing websites like youtube.com and has become all the buzz at technorati and other places with people search blogs.

One blog that I run, which typically gets < 200 hits per-day, had nearly 2000 hits after I wrote a little commentary on Tammy NYP.

I must have been out of Making Money mode when I wrote my little ditty, because I failed to capitalize on it... :(

What lessons can be learned from this?
Well, let me tell you. You can follow the trends at technorati as I have suggested before, and get traffic. . but never forget the intention of getting that traffic.. to make money!
SO always implant a link to an affiliate program inside your posts! And preferably one that has a similar theme.. a good example, would have been to write the dirty on Tammy and then add a link to "Taking Lives" with Angelina Jolie.. all that would have needed to be done was to say something like..
Tammy NyP is a joke.. if you want to see a real good sexy video try

Taking lives, with Angelina Jolie!

Note the use of an Amazon.com link.
Another lesson: It is okay to chase trends using a free website, like the one you will get at angelfire.com, but keep in mind that it can takes weeks for an update to get indexed in the search engines.. so using blogger, to draw traffic for these little flash in the pan phenomenon's is perhaps a better plan.

One idea that comes to mind, is to start a website which outlines the technorati search anomalies "like breeeport" and "Tammy NYP" and cross link between the two.
If you were to place a few well though of affiliate links like the ones you will find at cj.com, on the webpage, you could capitalize for months to come, and only have to write a couple of articles to your blog, then cut and paste them onto you site.. this is something I may try in the future if time permits.

And always remember to add tags to the bottom of your posts..
you can get the tag code at
technorati.com then it is just a matter of cutting and pasting into the HTML editor of your blogger account.

As you may know I have been using a link swaping service called link2me.com for a while, it seems to be helping with my PR (page rank) for another site, that I started using it for , before I did this one.
Remember how "popular" your page is, makes a difference when the searchengines go to rank you, and you want a high ranking , when somone enters in your "keyword".

Now to get on those more popular pages, the content must be similar to mine, adn the PR must be similar.. but for here, because of the format of a blog, I take just about all comers.

Well, I hope your making ton's of cash.. so far this year, form one advertizing source alone, I shoudl net $5000.. and it will take virtualy no additional work to maintain that level.
(Keep in mind this is one advertizer only, and I have several.. this one is just my best paying to date.. )

I have a diverse list to buy for, some aren't anywhere near a store (Middle of Nowhere Alaska!), and some are well.. real pains in the ass to buy for.. so what better than Amazon.com?!

Why? Well, I think that it is because so many people are "hard to buy for". I did tell a couple of people I wanted a new Harley.. but none of them can afford it right now either.. or like me enough to drop $30K.

Another failed idea..

Online Mall MLM. I tried one, I failed. It seems I am not the type to go harras every human I know and try to sign them up in my downline. I know MLM works for a number of people, but before you think that you can make money at Multi Level Marketing, first think about who you will have to approch to get started.. if you donl;t mine making friends feel uncomfortable to have you around, and family stop inviting you over for holidays, go fir it.. I just think that friends adn family should be free from sales pitch..

I have found it easier to make webpages with relevent subject matter adn advertize on them with affiliate programs, than to make a "online mall" and try to get others to make an online mall (only after they pay me to do it).

If you have looked into online mmalls, I suggest that you keep the commission, adn go to cj (see below) and search through the items on offer there through any number of outside affiliates. You can easily populate a web site with high quality items from well known suppliers, by signing up for a few programs with the biggies like Better Homes or Home Depot and then make your own website, either free at angelfire (or similar) or paying to have one hosted at godaddy, or XO or any other of the thousands of hosting companies.

This stuff does not have to be real complicated, it only needs to be as complicated as you want to make it.

Like I have said before, "you can make money online, I do it, and I am not all that bright."

Promoting your website.... some free ideas

Now once you have your free website from angelfire or any other number of places, it is time to start promoting it.
Here are a few tips and a few URLs of places that I think you will find helpful.
You will want to submit to every search engine you can find.
A decent automated service that is free is at http://www.submitcorner.com/ just scroll down towards the bottom you will see a search engine link.
They ask that you place a banner on your site, it is not tough to do and worth the time savings.

Then go to http://selfpromotion.com/list-of-search-engines.t here you will see a huge list of search engines and indexes that you can submit to, you will want to submit to every one of them that you can.. (I avoid all those that charge for inclusion, I will let you decide if you want to pay for a service that many others make available for free…)
A tip on this last one, is that it is a good idea to make a copy of your sites description (about 25 words or so) and your sites keywords about 25 again. Sometimes you will be asked to put one on a line and sometimes you will be asked for a list that is separated by comma.

Then the next real trick, is to get your link out and about on the web.

You will want to avoid schemes that promise 1000s of links, as most major search engines see those schemes as spam, and they can actually hurt your search engine placement.

Banner ads can be great, but it can be hard to pick the right ad for your site. CJ has a thing called a smart zone, (see earlier post) using a smart zone you can have several ads rotate through, you can then track, which get clicks and which are a waste of bandwidth.

If you see a trend towards one banner or campany you can then tell what your readers are interested in, and leave that banner or those banners in places where they are always present.

If you get a cj account, please please please use smart zones to test new banner ads.

The above is the HTML for the link cj.com if you wanted to put a link to cj dot come in your links area you would use a code similar to the code in the text area box above.
Your link would be slightly different as it would have your identifying code embedded in it, this way they can track your hits and leads.

cj.com has some rather remarkable reports too that will show you how many exposures you are getting to each link and how many clicks. Sometimes you need to adjust your links to get the bigest effect, I have been known to also use their "smart zones" this is a nice way to test several banners or ads in a given spot on your site or blog, you can add more or take away those ads that do not get much attention, as well as weight them for the number of times one will show up versus the others. non weighted smart zones are best when testing new ads for effect.

How to make blogger pay..

Okay step by step how to ad an advertisement to blogger, the easy way.
You have a Blogger account, you have a theme to your blog.. even if it is just random stuff, you have a theme we all do.

Alright, go get an account at cj.com
You have your account at cj.com

Now type in a keyword in the find links section for cj.com
You will be shown advertisers that relate somehow to your keyword, join their programs. Some require manual approval, this takes time but often they are the best advertisers.

Now you have programs you have joined.

In one window open up the blogger dashboard, select your blog, and go to templates.

There is a section marked out as “links” when you first get your account you will have one for google news and two others that say “edit me”
They have starting and ending tags that have little arrows on either side and “li” or “/li” on each end.

We are going to replace everything between the two “li”s and leave their arrow brackets in tact.
To do this I will usually just go to the right hand side just before the arrow that looks like this < and the arrow that points the other way (can;t figure out how to get it to show up here.. then and here is where it gets a little tricky..

You will in your other pen window, go to cj.com you will sort the advertisers by relationship, remember earlier we joined, and selected a couple of relative advertisers. You will click the link that says “get links”. Scroll down the list looking for a “text link” , click there, click “get html” copy the html with the button that they provide.
Minimize that window.
Now with your template open and your cursor where we took out the code between the bracketed “li” place your mouse cursor, right click and select paste.
You have just pasted an advertisement into your links.

Repeat the above steps until you are satisfied with the number of links you have placed.
Note there are other places you can place links, like banners and such, even in every post if you like, using a similar method to that described above.

Always be sure to click the “preview” button to make sure you have not accidentally goofed up any code when you are playing around in your template. If it does not look right you can click the undo edits button and start again.

Free ideas on how to make money, are people so jaded as to not dare click this?

I thought that this blog was a cute idea, I put there the ways I have found to make money and share them with strangers.. talk about teaching someone to fish rather than giving them a fish.

But I look at the click rate and am surprised to see how few actually click in.

I think it is because we get so bombarded with spam these days, that as soon as someone says “make money” we think, how much is this going to cost me?

Well I am a bit jaded too, so I don’t blame anyone that sees the title of this blog and says.. “no thank you”.. but I will ask that those of you who do stop by here take to heart my good intentions. If you think you know someone that may benefit from reading this blog, please pass the URL onto them..

If all you do is follow my advise about the free things, like blogger, cj and ebay, you will make a little money. If you come out ahead I will feel that I have done something good, and you will .. well you will have more money to spend on important things.. like broadband!

Arguably Google AdSense is the best way to make money with your Blogger Blog or website.
There are rules and YOU MUST FOLLOW THEM!

Google (rightfully so) will not play around if they thing that you are trying to defraud their advertisers. This includes, if one of you friends , in a mood of trying to “help you out” comes to your site and clicks the ads a lot.

With a website that got around 300 hits per day, I was making around $12.00 a day in Google AdSense revenue.

Then they canceled my account. I had a friend that unbeknownst to me was clicking my ads every morning.. this is a violation of the Google TOS and I was banned. I will not ever have a Google Adsense account again.. I understand why they banned me, and even though I was a little angry at first, the need for google to protect the advertisers far exceeds my need to make $12.00 a day. So I say “hats off to Google for doing such a fine job of protecting those, who like me pay for “per-click” advertising”.

So when you see the little link that says “sign up for google adsense” in your blog dashboard, do it!

I also like Gangsta Rap, and will run through spells of easy listening, classical (including Opera) and then will go back to my metal roots and listen to Mega Death for a week or two.. I think that “radio” is just to “pop” for me.

The thing is, that it is not only an insight into my musical taste it is also an ad for Napster.
I knew I was going to write somthign about music, so I went to cj (see earlier post) and found Napster.. this changed slightly what I was going to say in the posting, but the general jist of it stayed the same. I just fetched some link code from cj and pasted it above and below my post.. voila' instand ad insode my post.
If you think about many of yor posts to yoru blog you will see a theme, it is then an easy matter to open a new browser window, go to cj and get an ad from a reputable company to post inside your blog post.
This method is used for website and blogs everywhere, and it will make money if you have traffic to yor blog or website. The closer it is in theme to the blog post r site the more people that will click the ad, adn then the more that will buy somthing or sign up for a free trial, in the case of Napster. See it really can be easy.

I used to use a paid to surf program, I actually do not remember the name of it anymore, but it worked for a short time, without causing my any real grief.

The way it worked (and I assume others still do) was that whenever you logged on, a banner would be displayed on your screen this banner would flash a new ad at you about every 10 seconds. The banner when I started was about 1" x 4" and could be moved around the screen to the least conspicuous place. I had quite a down line started too, I was making about $40.00 a month for doing nothing really.. but I did violate their terms and conditions by posting advertisements up at local grocery stores asking people to rip off a tab at the bottom, with my referring URL printed on it, and go sign up.. I

quit using it, when it got a bigger banner, and started to slow my computer to a point where it interfered with my other online activities. (At the time that was mostly listing books on ebay) I could list a book in about 10 minutes that could yield from $5 to $500 dollars in return, if it took my twice as long to list it no longer paid for itself so I dropped the program.

Today I went looking for paid to surf programs to see if there were any still out there, I came across this website that lists a goodly number of them. If you are interested in something like this (trust me it is easy to build up your down line by just telling everyone in your circle of internet friends, you don’t have to violate the terms like I did, unless you want to and do not fear getting caught) go check this site out http://www.angelfire.com/journal2/payme/ Just the fact that this guy uses angelfire and has a top Yahoo listing means that he is doing something right.. so go see him and have fun.

I always recomend you start reading from the begining of this blog, but this post will stand alone as a money making idea.

Use AdBrite to buy & sell ads!

Okay with this one you don;t even need a website, just an affiliate program or two that will alow you to post text ads.
You can go to CJ to find these advertizers. cj.com
Then go to adbrite Use AdBrite to buy & sell ads! and place ads in the network.
Tricks adn tips here, you will want to find products and services at CJ that have high potential commissions.
Then place network ads at AdBrite. Bid 5 cents per click, this way you can get 100 clicks for only $5.00 Try a few different products / services as not all will be sucessful.
A typical ad should have a catchy headline then a discriptive link and the refering URL.

I have used CJ here as my example, but ther eare programs with much higher CPM's look for the ones with the highest CPM that allow text links.

Now one thing to keep in mind, if you start to want to try more targeted ads, you may have to pay more than a nickle a click for the better sites, I advise tryig things on the network to see if your ad will work first, if you can get clicks from a general audience, then you can get sales from a more targeted audience later.
You will always want to visit the website that you are promoting, while there you will want to ask yourself, "would I buy somthing from this site?" if you would not, then you may want to look for another program or product to promote. If you would buy somthing from them then the chances are good that somone else would too.

Promoting your website step by step..

Okay so you have a complete website, what do you do now?
Well first and foremost you let the search engines know that you exist. There are a number of ways to do this, here are a few that I use.

Number one, Use a mass submitter.. I use this one to cover the major search engines, it is easy if not complete.

If you use a search engine submit tool and they ask that you put a banner on your site linking back to them, do it.. if you use blogger, you can go into templates, scroll down until you see the links section and add the code to the bottom there.. not hard to do.

Number two and this one will take time is to submit your site by hand to everyone that will list it.
Here is the best site I have found for a list of search engines and indexes even if you think that your site will be rejected submit it anyway.

This includes blogs.. many search engines don’t take blogs right now, but many do.

Number three.. get links back to you. This is of huge importance to the search engines, it is how they rank your page.. the best program for that I have found is at http://Link2Me.com

Now you want to find an advertizer or several for your website or blog.
Trust me you do.. So go here..
This link will take you to cj.com or commission junction. I have been using cj for years and have made some decent money just running banner ads on my websites.. (I don’t have any stats back from my blogs yet, but they are young)

So to date you have signed up for ebay. And gotten a blog or website… blogger.com or angelfire.com or both..

Now go sign up at cj.com and do a search for something that is the same as your primary keyword.. sure you may have to play around with variations of the theme, but go do it..

So you have gotten your eBay account and have started to sell the junk laying around your house.. fun isn’t it?
You can also go to thrift stores in your area and look for bargains. I have friends that make livings going around to yard sales buying other people’s junk and selling it on eBay.
If you are not into collectables eBay can be a bit of a challenge, but look at things like designer clothing when you go thrift store shopping.. sometimes you can find new clothes on the racks, then eBay it.. glass wear and the like are also popular eBay items. All you need is a little time and a little effort. Trial and error is how I came to find that I loved selling books on eBay. With a little effort you will find your niche;’ trust me.

This post is about having a web site.
You can have a website and you can have it for free. I have used angelfire for a number of popular sites.

Angelfire will help you get set up with a free account, your payment back to them is that they will run banner ads or pop up ads on your site… a small price to pay for first getting out there.
Tips on getting a free website.. when you go to choose the name pick something that you will be writing about, and use it in the name of the site.

Example: http://www.angelfire.com/mi2/hottubs/ mi2/hottubs is their user name, the site is about hot tubs. When you submit your website to the search engines you will want a URL that has to do with the subject matter of the site. (don’t worry I will talk about search engines at length a little later)
Fo now step one, is think of something you like, or have enough knowledge about that you could write a website, nothing too huge is necessary just a few pages.. got your subject?

Okay now go to angelfire, and ask for your website.. note your user name will have something like “mi2” in front, if you can find one of these prefixes that pertains to your site good, if not just pick anything, then put you number one keyword or keywords in the place of the rest of your user name like “hottubs” in our example above.

Now start writing, and adding photos, rule number one is have fun.. we’ll talk about how to promote your site and how to get it listening in the search engines soon.. but for now enjoy your eBay money and your new website.

You can do the same thing here at blogger if you would like to start a blog.. I think you should do both, but one step at a time.. when you get a blogger account you will want to use the same rule about keywords in the name of the blog. Note this blogs URL.. it is keyword rich.

I am an ebay seller, I am an ebay buyer, I love ebay!

Lets take this money making project from the ground up shall we..
I think that the first step for anyone to make real money online, starting with next to nothing other than in internet connection is an ebay account.

We all have stuff laying around, that would be better off used in a yeard sale.. before you throw that now useless item away, try selling it on ebay!

I sell books there, I have also sold older electronics, things that i had no use for anymore, even as old as a 8MB Ram chip.. you will be amazed at how easy it is to sell on ebay and how much money, stuff you think of as junk will sell for.

Well kids, I used to be a skeptic.. I think you should be now, even as you read this.
I have tried a ton of stuff to make money online, and I keep trying new things, this blog will be a complete accounting of the things I try, and the things I have tried in the past.

There is no get rich quick scheme that I have found yet, but rather with careful planning and work, you can make money using the internet.
